I have been building sets and player collections since the late 70's. I stopped collecting around 1985, and resumed in late 2003. I'm working my way back through the 60's and 70's sets and filling in the gaps . I've also continued the many 70's/80's player collections I had before, plus I added a few new ones. I collect Washington Redskins cards from every era, and have more old than new.
I don't buy many wax boxes except for the one or two current or recent sets I've started or if I find an interesting set from a few years ago, and those are usually on the lower end. I don't have a lot of GU/Autos except for one football player, and I don't buy boxes just for the Joe Collector Mojo hits. Rookie cards aren't that important to me, especially no-name prospects. I don't generally do newer Bowman sets because they're too hard to identify. I will never be interested in modern graded cards of any kind and don't believe in their inflated value. Grading has its use for sight unseen purchasing of high value items, but I think grade 9 or 10 cards should only be worth high raw book value, not several times that value.
Already have the Mantle that
this brings. Need the card as pictured.
#2 - 2011 Topps Update Topps Town #39 Ellsbury & #45 Beckett
These are barely more than game cards that shouldn't be counted as
inserts in a pack, but the Bosox boys here have been especially elusive.
#3 - 1978-79 Topps hockey #1 Bossy HL
Set killer, of course. One of the rare vintage hockey sets I've got. Want to do more.
#4 - 2008-09 O-Pee-Chee #648 Georges Laraque
The closest I am to completing a hockey master set (no GU or autos). And my favorite
hockey set besides 02/03 Pacific Private Stock Reserve. Now down to one thanks to Mark Zentkovich!
#5 - 2001 Topps Archives #9 Willie Mays 1952
Set killer for the Archives that are numbered in the fine print.
This one actually has the original card number 261 on back, but
will say #9 of 450 down the left edge. Not to mention the gold stamp.
#6 - 1975 Topps football Buck Buchanan #16
Gremlin attack on a set I thought I had completed after finding the last checklist
in a quarter box at the National. But when I went to put it in the binder,
there was already one there. And a few pages further, there is still a gap where this one goes.
Not sure how I end up missing ones like this, as organized as I really am.
#7 - 2004 UD Timeless Teams Freehan #73 and Gossage #160
Gremlin attack for one of my favorite sets of all time. Found I was still lacking
these two after I thought I had the last ones.
#8 - 1989 Score Scoremasters Bo Jackson #1 & Cal Ripken #3
Got a box set of these for cheap at an antique shop or somewhere similar,
but it was missing Cal. Also need a second Bo for player collection.
#9 - 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Gypsy Kings insert #4 Wasso
It seems like Topps just made these up because they ran out of ideas for Gypsy Queens.
These are way too expensive to buy for what they are, so I hope there are other collectors
that consider these as trade box loiterers. Was going to skip them altogether, but
ended up with the majority of them from somewhere, so now I'm committed to finish them.
